Diagnosis. The forewing pattern of E. squamapanna is similar to that of Eudemopsis tamdaoensis ( Heppner & Bae, 2016) comb. nov., but it can be recognized by the brown mixed with dark brown scales on the frons, labial palp, tegulae and mesonotum, whereas the scales are greyish brown in E. tamdaoensis ( Heppner & Bae, 2016) comb. nov. Male genitalia of this new species include a large patch of modified short scales and a large membranous lobe of very long modified scales on the anterior surface of the valva, which distinguish it from other Eudemopsis species. Eudemopsis fansipana ( Razowski, 2009) comb. nov. has only a patch of modified short scales, whereas E. tamdaoensis ( Heppner & Bae, 2016) comb. nov. has only very long modified scales.
Description. Head ( Figs. 3–4 View FIGURES 3–4 ): Lower frons brown mixed with dark purple, upper frons and vertex brown to dark brown mixed with dark purple; antenna light brown; labial palpus porrect, first segment dark purple, second segment curved upward, brown mixed with purple, with dark brown along ventral margin, apical segment short, light brown.
Thorax: Pronotal collar dark purple; mesonotum light brown mixed with purple marks mediolaterally and posterolaterally; tegulae light brown with purple mixed with dark brown basal 1/3; posterior crest light brown. Forewing subtriangular, length 5.7–6.9 mm in males (n = 20) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–2 ), 6.6 mm in female (n = 1) ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–2 ); costal margin evenly curved, with a rather small pterostigma on costa between Sc and R 1 in both male and female (distinct after removed scales) ( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURES 5–6 ); termen round, base of M 2 close to M 3 than M 1, M 3 curved downward basally, CuA 1 curved downward medially, distal end of M 1, M 2, M 3, and CuA 1 equidistant; costal strigulae brown, separated by dark brown streaks, strigulae 1– 6 distinct, strigulae 7 –9 indistinct; ground color yellowish brown to light brown, with scattered brown to dark brown spots; basal patch between wing base and strigula 1, extending downward as irregular band to near middle of dorsum, brown mixed with dark brown; subbasal fascia between strigulae 2 and 3, narrowed, extending from costa curve to dorsum, brown mixed with dark brown; median fascia between strigulae 4 and 5, moderately widened band, extending from costa beyond to middle of wing, distinct on costa, slightly narrowed beyond to middle of wing; postmedian fascia narrow, sinuate, extending from costa to near tornus, brown mixed with dark brown; preterminal fascia narrow, sinuate, extending slightly obliquely from costa to termen at M 3, dark brown, with a short, longitudinal, narrowed band fused with postmedian and preterminal fascia at M 2, apical 1/3 with a large, subcircular patch, extending from costa to M 2, pale brown, more bright anteriorly; tornal patch, large, subelliptic, between M 2 to tornus, light brown, slightly paler anteriorly, beyond preterminal fascia with an oblique band, moderately wide, extending from costa to termen between M 2 and M 3; underside with pale trace of upper side markings; fringe scales dark brown, except light brown between CuA 1 to tornus. Hindwing subtriangular, costal margin in male more convex than in female ( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURES 5–6 ), greyish brown, slightly paler to wing base, wing apex with a distinct mark between costa and Sc+R 1, pale brown, fringe scales greyish brown, slightly paler to anal angle, except brown at apex; underside light brown, slightly paler to wing base, with large longitudinal patch extending from wing base to apex and from costa to M 1 yellowish white with patch of light purple scales median 1/3.
Abdomen ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ): Segment IV with two small membranous lobes anterolaterally, with dense scale sockets. Membrane beyond abdominal segment VIII enlarged. Male genitalia ( Figs. 8–12 View FIGURE 8 View FIGURE 9 View FIGURES 10–12 ) with tegumen moderately broad, oblong, bilobed apex, with dense scale sockets laterally, apodeme of muscle m4 rather small, subtriangular lobe; uncus ovate, rather small, with sparse setae; socii reduced; gnathos arising from near lateral midpoint of tegumen, completely fused medially as strongly sclerotized band, densely microtrichiate, dorsomedially with an extended sclerotized, rather narrow, tubular median prominence to tuba analis, long, slightly narrowed to apex, densely covered with microtrichia; vinculum moderately wide; juxta subtriangular, rather small; caulis moderately long; anellus surrounding basal 1/2 of phallus, with two groups of dense microtrichia laterally; phallus subtubular, rather short and moderately wide, slightly narrowed towards apex; cornuti absent; valva simple, without neck, dorsal margin rather straight, basal 2/3 broadened, margins rather parallel, apical 1/3 with ventral margin slightly narrowed towards apex, apex rather wide and round, posterior surface with a small group of dense setae basally, medially with a widened group of short, sparsely setose, apical 2/3 clothed with short setae, ventromedially with a cluster of moderately dense and long, strong spiniform setae, anterior surface at basal 1/4 with a large membranous lobe of dense, very long setae ( Figs. 10B–12B View FIGURES 10–12 ), white in pinned specimens ( Fig. 10B View FIGURES 10–12 ), apical 3/4 with a large patch of very dense, rather short, modified scales ( Figs. 10A–12A View FIGURES 10–12 ), dark brown in pinned specimens ( Fig. 10A View FIGURES 10–12 ). Female genitalia ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 ) with papillae anales moderately broad, densely setose; tergum VIII moderately sclerotized, without scale socket, subtriangular lateral extension densely microtrichiate; sternum VII moderately sclerotized, with dense scale sockets, more dense posteriorly, posterior margin shallowly concave, slightly sinuate; ostium bursae elongate, beyond posterior margin of sternum VII, surrounded with large, sclerotized, subcircular sterigma, covered with dense microtrichia, posteromedially with a moderately large patch, densely microtrichiate; ductus bursae 1/2 length of corpus bursae, anterior 1/3 narrowed, posterior 2/3 widened, colliculum ill-defined; ductus seminalis arising from anterior 1/3 of ductus bursae; corpus bursae large, ovate, with two moderately large, curved, blade-shaped signa.
Distribution. Thailand (Bueng Kan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Nayok, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat Provinces) and Laos (Vientiane Province).
Etymology. The specific epithet squamapanna comes from two Latinized words, squama = scale, and panna = patch, and refers to the large patch of short scales on the anterior surface of the valva.
