Type: — INDONESIA. “in summo apice montis Pangerango”, 20 February 1890, Karsten s.n. (holotype FH; isotypes BM, FH, G!, JE!, S, W) ( So 2003) .

Thallus dioicous, up to 1 cm long, 0.8–1.3 mm wide, dichotomously branched, appressed to the substrate, margins plane to slightly recurved, pale green. Thallus apex obtuse or ascending attenuated to form gemmiferous branch. Hairs single, straight, sparse; single on ventral side of midrib. Midrib in cross section orbicular, 66–76 × 75–83 µm, composed of 2–3 cells wide on both dorsal and ventral sides, 10–13 medullary cells, dorsal and ventral epidermal cells 11–16 × 33–40 µm, medullary cells 8–13 × 15–21 µm. Wing 10–18 cells wide; marginal cells 36–75 × 16–40 μm, median cells 33–50 × 25–47 μm. Oil bodies not seen. Antheridial branches not seen. Female involucres obovate, 0.1–0.2 × 0.1–0.2 mm, with hairs along margin. Sporophyte not seen. Gemmae ovoid, 83–100 μm in diameter, at apex and margin of attenuated branches.

Ecology: —In Thailand, this species is found on branches, twigs, tree trunks, felled trees, and rocks in lowland evergreen forest, hill evergreen forest, and upper montane rainforest at altitude of 250–2300 m.

Notes: — Metzgeria consanguinea is easily separated from other Thai Metzgeria by the frequent production of attenuated branches.
