Mordellistena stricta Costa, 1854: 16–17
( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1–13 )
Type locality. “Regno di Napoli” [former Kingdom of Naples ], Italy .
Material examined. Lectotype by present designation ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1–13 ), female, MZFN: new box, labelled: “12.1582 | Mordellistena stricta , n. Napoli [original Costa’s label] | LECTOTYPUS Mordellistena stricta Costa, 1854 D. Selnekovič des. 2019 [red label] | Mordellistena (s. str.) pumila (Gyllenhal, 1810) D. Selnekovič det. 2019”; glued on side; genitalia stored in microvial. Paralectotype by present designation, 1 specimen (sex undetermined), MZFN: original box, labelled: “M.° Zool.° N.° 5741 | Mordellistena stricta A. Cos. Benev. [original Costa’s label]”; pinned; completely covered in mould. Additional specimens in the series: 1 male, MZFN: new box, labelled: “43.856” [probably M. pumila (Gyllenhal, 1810) or M. purpureonigrans Ermisch, 1963 ]; 2 specimens (sex undetermined), MZFN: new box, no data, unidentified; 1 male, MZFN: original box, labelled: “Cassino | M.° Zool.° N.° 5740 | Mordellistena sp. det. E. Ruzzier 2010” [probably M. pseudorhenana Ermisch, 1977 ]; 1 male, MZFN: original box, no data [probably M. pseudorhenana Ermisch, 1977 ].
Current status. Junior subjective synonym of Mordellistena pumila (Gyllenhal, 1810) by Emery (1876).
Remarks. The collection contains two specimens bearing the original identification labels. The female specimen designated here as lectotype is in relatively good condition. The first author identified it as Mordellistena pumila (type specimen examined, UUZM) based on the colour of pubescence, length of antennomeres and ridges on metatibiae and metatarsi. The other specimen designated here as paralectotype is completely covered in mould and impossible to identify. The series of M. stricta contains four other specimens without any identification labels. Therefore, these are not considered parts of the type series.
