Notes:— Melastoma ornatum Sw. View in CoL is the oldest basionym for this species and it was omitted from the list of synonyms by Guimarães et al. (2019). Because the combination Chaetogastra inconstans (Vahl) P.J.F.Guim. & Michelang. View in CoL is based on a more recent synonym ( Rhexia inconstans Vahl (1797: 37) View in CoL , a new combination for the basionym with priority is needed. Guimarães et al. (2019) designated a lectotype for Osbeckia ornata View in CoL unaware of the designation already made by Howard (1972) for Melastoma ornatum View in CoL . The first designation of the lectotype has priority and that is noted above.
