Type: — BRAZIL. Bahia: Serra Acurua, Rio S. Francisco, 1838, J.S. Blanchet 2827 (holotype: F!; isotypes: BM not seen, BR 8423368 digital image!)

Shrub or subshrub, 0.5–1 m high; branches densely villous or velutinous; internodal stem wings absent. Leaves 3- foliolate, digitate, petioles 1.5–4 cm long; leaflets orbicular, wide- ovate to wide- elliptic, (1.9–)2.4–6.5 × 2.2–5.6 cm, villous or velutinous on both surfaces; stipules 4–5 mm long, linear or triangular. Inflorescence a raceme, 6–20 cm long, opposite to a leaf, crowded; peduncles 0.8–2 cm long. Flowers 11-35, pedicel 5–7 mm long; bracts 4–5 mm long, linear- lanceolate, persistent; bracteoles 1 mm long, linear, persistent; calyx 9–12 mm long, lobes three times as long as the tube, villous; corolla pale yellow; the standard petal 1.3–1.6 × 1.1–1.5 cm; wing petals 1.3–1.6 cm long; keel petals 1.2–1.6 cm long, glabrate or ciliate on the upper margin, untwisted; ovary 3–4 mm long, stipitate; style curved. Legumes 1.2–1.5 × 0.7–0.8 cm, cylindrical, puberulous, brown at maturity, ca. 10-seeded; seeds 3 × 3 mm, seed coat yellow or brown.

Distribution and Ecology: — Crotalaria bahiaensis occurs in the Northeast of Brazil. It is usually found in cerrado vegetation and in areas transitioning from cerrado to caatinga vegetation, on shallow rocky soils.
