Lechius madagascariensis ( Iwan, 1998) . — Iwan 2001: 504 (comb.), 2002a: 74, 2002b: 274, 2010: 39; Schawaller 2010: 279.

Material studied. Holotype, male ( TMNH): “Ampijoroa, 14 Jan 1956, Tsaramandroso”, “E. Mc. Callan Collector”, “INSTITUT SCIENTIFIQUE MADAGASCAR ”, “ Hovademulus madagascariensis sp. nov, det. D. Iwan”.

Redescription. Body—length ca. 11.0 mm; width ratio elytra/pronotum ca. 1.1; length ratio elytra/pronotum (pl) ca. 2.5. Clypeus—clypeal emargination width/depth ratio ca. 6.0. Pronotum—pronotum length (pl)/width ratio ca. 0.6; length ratio pronotum (pl)/anterior pronotal angles (apl) ca. 0.9. Elytra—elytra length/width ratio ca. 1.3. Scutellum—width ratio anterior margin of elytra/scutellum at base ca. 4.8. Metaventrite—length ratio cavity of hind coxa/metaventrite between the insertions of mid and hind coxae ca. 2.3; metepisternum length/width ratio ca. 3.3. Abdomen—width ratio process of I abdominal ventrite/process of metaventrite ca. 2.5. Legs—fore tibia length/width ratio ca. 4.3; fore femur length/width ratio ca. 3.6. Tarsi—length ratio hind tarsomere 1st/2nd ca. 2.5.

Habitus as in Fig. 22 View FIGURES 20 – 24 .

Head with conspicuous punctures (1 – 2 diameters apart) (Fig. 4). Anterior margin of clypeus with shallow median emargination. Mentum slightly narrowing towards apex; submentum with elongated base.

Pronotal disc shiny with conspicuous punctation (3 – 4 diameters apart). Sides of pronotum subparallel from the base to about 0.33 of length ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 20 – 24 ). Lateral border distinct and wide. Hypomeron without longitudinal depression near the edge.

Elytral row with punctures (4 – 5 diameters apart). Interrows shiny; with punctures 4 – 5 diameters apart ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 8 – 16 ). Elytral base sinusoidal. Elytral humeri rounded. Scutellum triangular.

Apex of intercoxal process of prosternum protruding outwards (in lateral view). 5th abdominal ventrite bordered with dense punctures (single diameters apart).

Male protarsi widened. Male protibia similar as in L. longiclavis sp. nov. (Figs 6, 7). Male mesofemora with a denticle on the inner side ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 17 – 19 ).

Male genitalia as in Fig. 26.

Notes. This species is known from one partly damaged specimen (male). The morphology of antennae and maxillary palpi is unknown.

Comments. The only known specimen was collected on 14 Jan 1956.

Distribution. North Madagascar ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 17 – 19 ).
