Diagnosis. Wing sub-hyaline, stigma pale brown; hind femur dilated with 17 elongate anteroventral spines with basal tubercles weakly developed, being the 3 apical spines more ventrally located; 1 short ventral spine on distal third, posteroventral row irregular, not aligned, with 15 short spines without basal tubercle; hind tibia tubular, slightly arched; hypandrial lobe triangular with narrowed apex.
Holotype male. Body: 4.5 mm. Wing: 3.5 mm.
Description. Antenna brown, pedicel with elongate bristles reaching the half of postpedicel; postpedicel twice longer than wide, equal to scape and pedicel combined. Arista 2.6 times length of antenna. Face narrow, black with brown pruinescence. Palpus brown; proboscis dark yellow. Ocellar setae elongate, convergent, tilted to the front, almost horizontal. Postcranium dark brown with brown pruinescence; postocular setae long and brown; occipital setae reduced, short, presents on lower two-thirds of postcranium and some bristles on the margin of buccal opening and foramen.
Thorax with rust colored pruinescence, mixed with gray pruinescence on anterior portion of scutum; scutum dark brown with postpronotal lobe and postalar callus pale brown; pleurae brown. Bristles yellow, scattered, very thin, longer laterally and on prescutellar disc; pronotum with marginal uniserial bristles; 2 long and robust, dark brown npl; 1 long and thin pal; scutellum with weak and yellow bristles, 1 preapical pair long and parallel, 3 lateral bristles about one-half to one-third length of preapical pair and 2 short and thin apical bristles ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 30 – 37 ).
Fore and mid legs yellow except basal two-thirds of femora, coxae, trochanters and tarsomeres 3–5 brown; hind leg brown except distal one-fifth of femur yellow, tibia yellow with pale brown wide ring in the middle and tarsomeres 1 and 2 yellow. Bristles thin, elongate and brown; mid tibia with longer bristles on posterior surface; hind tibia with long and thin dorsal bristles. Femur moderately swollen. Hind tibia tubular, slightly arched ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 30 – 37 ); hind tarsus little shorter than the tibia, tarsomere 1 as long as following tarsomeres combined. Outstanding bristles: fore tibia and tarsus without outstanding bristles; mid tibia with 5 short anterodorsal bristles, slightly more robust than those of coating, 1 short anteroventral preapical and 1 long ventral apical bristles surpassing the half of tarsomere 1, all yellow; mid tarsomere 1 with 1 anterodorsal bristle near middle and 1 anterodorsal preapical and 1 posterior sub-basal bristle reaching the apex of tarsomere; hind trochanter with 1 short and thin black ventral spine; hind femur with 17 anteroventral elongate spines inserted on basal tubercles weakly developed, being the 3 apical spines more ventrally located; 1 short ventral spine on distal third; posteroventral row irregular, not aligned, with 15 short spines without protuberance in the base; anteroventral surface of the hind tarsomere with some short black anteroventral spines on tarsomere 1 and 1 apical spine on tarsomere 2.
Wing ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 54 – 63 ): sub-hyaline, stigma pale brown, R4+5 and M1 slightly convergent; anal lobe wide.
Abdomen brown to dark brown with rust colored pruinescence. Bristles scattered, pale brown to yellow, long on lateral margin and short dorsally, distinctly longer on Tg1 and Tg2; sternites with yellow bristles, longer on distal margin. Terminalia: hypandrium short, not surpassing the apex of left epandrial lamella; hypandrial lobe short, about one-third length of base of hypandrium, with triangular apex ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 30 – 37 ); epandrial lamellae with short and strong preapical bristles, shorter than half of length of respective lamella ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 30 – 37 ); surstyli short, right surstylus with three pointed apex, left surstylus with three faces ( Figs. 33, 34 View FIGURES 30 – 37 ).
Female: as in the male except for: npl bristles more pale and weak, weakly differentiated; hind trochanter without ventral spines; hind femur with 18 anteroventral spines longer than in the male with bases faintly protuberant and irregular sizes, long and short alternate; 17 short and subequal posteroventral spines. Terminalia: ovipositor short, tergite and sternite 8 entire ( Figs. 36, 37 View FIGURES 30 – 37 ).
Type material. Holotype male ( INPA): “ BRASIL, PR [Paraná], S. [São] J. [José] Pinhais, Serra do Mar, i.1985 ”. “Malaise, J. A. Rafael”. Condition of the holotype: good, not dissected; right wing partially torn. Material originally conserved in alcohol 70%. Paratypes: BRASIL, PR, S. J. Pinhais, Serra do Mar, i.1985; Malaise, J. A. Rafael, 3 females ( INPA); iii.1986, 1 male ( INPA); Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia, x.1964, 27 o 11’B–52o 23’L, 300–500m, Fritz Palumann, 1 female ( MZSP).
Distribution: Brazil (Paraná, Santa Catarina).
Etymology. The specific name refers to the state of Paraná, Brazil.
Lactistomyia pulchra sp.n. ( Figs. 38–45 View FIGURES 38 – 45 , 61 View FIGURES 54 – 63 )
Diagnosis. Wing brown, smoothly more darkness in costal margin; stigma brown; hind femur dilated, with 12 short and robust anteroventral spines inserted on dark basal tubercles, 3 spines more ventrally located on basal third, 4 posteroventral spines on basal third; hind tibia slightly arched, almost straight, anterior surface flattened with soft longitudinal furrow; hypandrial lobe greatly enlarged with three-pointed apex.
Holotype male. Body: 7.5 mm. Wing: 6.0 mm.
Description. Antenna brown, pedicel with short bristles; postpedicel about twice longer than wide, as long as scape and pedicel combined; arista 3 times length of antenna. Face narrow, black with brown pruinescence. Palpus brown, proboscis dark yellow. Ocellar setae short thin and erect, slightly divergent. Postcranium black with grayish brown pruinescence; postocular setae black, short, present on upper third of postcranium and absent inferiorly; occipital setae scattered, on lower half of postcranium and some setae on the margin of buccal opening and foramem.
Thorax black with postalar callus yellow and pleurae brown; with dense rust colored pruinescence, scattered on pleurae. Scutum prominent slightly rounded dorsally. Bristles yellow, short, thin; bristles of the prescutellar disc about 3 times longer than length of anterior ones; acrostichal strip of bristles wide; pronotum with marginal bristles biserial in the middle, disordered and more numerous laterally; 2 robust npl; postalar callus pilose with 1 faintly outstanding bristle; scutellum with 1 preapical pair long and robust, 1 apical pair and 2 lateral bristles short and thin ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 38 – 45 ).
Fore and mid legs pale brown, hind leg brown. Bristles short, pale brown on fore and mid legs, brown on hind leg; mid tibia with longer bristles on posterior surface. Hind femur moderately dilated with elongate scattered brown bristles; hind tibia only slightly arched, almost straight, anterior surface flattened with soft longitudinal furrow, posterior surface round ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 38 – 45 ); hind tarsus slightly longer than half length of tibia; tarsomere 1 slightly longer than following tarsomeres combined. Outstanding bristles: hind tibia with 1 anteroventral and 1 posteroventral short, slightly robust and yellow preapical bristles; fore tarsus without outstanding bristles; mid tibia with 4–5 elongate anterodorsal bristles, 1 long ventral preapical bristle reaching the half of tarsomere 1 plus some preapical bristles, all yellow; mid tarsomere 1 bristled with 3 spine-like short sub-basal posteroventral bristles, 1 longer posteroventral and 1 dorsal bristles in the middle and 1 strong dorsal preapical bristle; hind trochanter with 1 short and strong black ventral spine; hind femur with 1 anterodorsal bristle on distal one-fifth and 1 anterior preapical; 12 short and robust ventral spines with dark protuberant base plus 3 spines more ventrally located on basal third, 4 posteroventral spines on basal third; hind tarsus with short sharp anteroventral tubercles (8 on tarsomere 1 and 1 on apex of tarsomeres 2 and 3).

Abdomen dark brown with dense rust colored pruinescence. Bristles yellow, thin, short dorsally and long on lateral margin, mainly of Tg1–Tg3; sternites with elongate and thin bristles. Terminalia: hypandrium very long, about twice length of left epandrial lamella; hypandrial lobe greatly elongate, enlarged, with three pointed apex, longer than base of hypandrium ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 38 – 45 ); left epandrial lamella with robust wavy preapical bristles, as long as length of respective lamella; right epandrial lamella without outstanding britsles ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 38 – 45 ); surstyli long, right surstylus robust, left surstylus slender ( Figs. 41, 42 View FIGURES 38 – 45 ).
Female: as in the male except for: fore tarsomere 1 with 2 dorsal outstanding dark bristles (1 near middle and 1 preapical); hind trochanter without ventral spines; hind femur with 13 posteroventral spines with protuberant bases, 1 strong dorsal bristle on distal one-fifth; 1 preapical posteroventral spine and 1 ventral spine on distal one-fifth, both with normal bases. Terminalia: ovipositor elongate; Tg7 with triangular area without sclerotization on distal margin; Tg8 partially sclerotised, St8 protuberant in the base, divided in two longitudinal narrow plates united basally ( Figs. 44, 45 View FIGURES 38 – 45 ).
Type material. Holotype male ( BMNH): “ BOLIVIA, Beni, Rurrenabaque, 17.iv–6.v.1979, M. Cooper”. “BM 1995E–90”.
Condition of the holotype: good, not dissected; left wing mounted in micro slides. Allotype female: same data of the holotype ( INPA). Paratypes: PERU, Tingo Maria, Huanuco, Oct[ober].30.1947, Alt. 2.200 ft., J.C. Pallister, 1 male ( AMNH); same data, Oct[ober]. 21.1941, 1 male ( INPA).
Distribution: Bolivia, Peru.
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin pulcher (beautiful) in reference to the general aspect of this species.
