Telemiades mielkei Siewert & Casagrande , sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Telemiades mielkei Siewert & Casagrande , sp. nov. is distinguished from the other species of the “ epicalus group” by the ground color orangish and by the tegumen with distal margin with two pairs of lateral apophysis, the proximal asymmetrical and bifid.

Description. Head: frons and vertex dark brown, with yellow scales; eye dark brown, surrounded by yellow scales; labial palpi porrect; first and second segments dark brown with yellow and white scales; third segment dark brown. Antennae dark brown, base of each segment cream, apiculus ventrally cream; nudum of 28 segments.

Thorax: dorsally and ventrally dark brown with yellow scales.

FW: length of males 21 mm (n=2). DFW ( Fig. 94 ): ground color orangish; four dark brown spots: two cellular (upper and lower) and two discal in CuA 1 –CuA 2 e CuA 2 –2A; three apical rectangular spots in R 3 –R 4, R 4 –R 5, and R 5 –M 1; five dark brown submarginal spots as an irregular band in M 1 –M 2, M 2 –M 3, M 3 –CuA 1, CuA 1 –CuA 2, and CuA 2 –2A; distal margin dark brown.

DHW ( Fig. 94 ): ground color orangish; four dark brown discal spots in Sc+Rs–R1, upper cell, lower cell, and CuA 2 –2A, the last one smaller; six dark brown submarginal spots as an irregular band in Rs–M 1, M 1 –M 2, M 2 –M 3, M 3 –CuA 1, CuA 1 –CuA 2, and CuA 2 –2A.

VFW ( Fig. 95 ): as DFW; ground color brown with dark yellow sparse scales at discal cell.

VHW ( Fig. 95 ): as DHW; ground color brown with yellow sparse scales.

Abdome: dorsally and ventrally dark brown and yellow.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 165 ): tegumen rectangular, posterior margin with two pairs of lateral apophysis, the outer asymmetrical and bifid. Anterior projection of saccus triangular, anterior margin rounded. Uncus rectangular, almost same size as tegumen, distal margin pointed; lateral margin slightly truncated. Valva rectangular, twice as long as wide; costa rounded, covered by small spines on internal margin; distal margin rounded and serrated; dorso–distal projection as a triangular process; sacculus rectangular, about 1/2 the length of valva. Fultura inferior distally bifid, with distal margin rounded. Aedeagus cylindrical, slightly sinuous on proximal half; insertion of manica in third proximal of aedeagus; opening for ejaculatory bulb rounded; distal margin sharped; opening for vesica dorsal and lateral left, about 1/2 of size of aedeagus; cornuti forming two lines of sharp and conic spines, the first line with small spines located at third proximal, and second line with spines more developed and located at central region of aedeagus.

Female unknown.

Distribution. Telemiades mielkei sp. nov. is known only by two male specimens from Cosñipata Valley, Cusco, Peru, about 1.100 m a.s.l.

Etymology. This species is named to honor one of us, Olaf Hermann Hendrik Mielke, for his extensive contribution to the study of the Neotropical skippers, and for his dedication in mentoring many students in taxonomy of Lepidoptera during his whole life, including the latter and the former author of this paper.

Taxonomic discussion. Although clearly part of the “ epicalus group”, T. mielkei sp. nov. is immediately distinguished from the other species of the group by the ground color orangish, and the tegumen with two pairs of lateral apophysis, the outer asymmetrical and bifid. Telemiades mielkei sp. nov. is represented only by two specimens collected in the Cosñipata Valley, Cusco, Peru, an area that is rich in endemic species (e.g. Pyrcz et al. 2010).

Type material. Holotype male deposited at MHNL with the following labels : / HOLOTYPUS / PERU, CUZ- CO, COSÑIPATA VALLEY, QUEBRADA QUITACALZÓN, 13º 01’ S 71º 30’ W, 4–IV–2016 1.100m, O. MIELKE LEG ./ Holotypus Telemiades mielkei Siewert & Casagrande det. 2019/.

Paratypes. One male specimen with same data as holotype, bearing the label OM 79.821 . Deposited at DZUP– OM.
