Brachysomus curvimanus Yunakov, 2006: 306 . Type locality: Turkey, Bozdað.
Redescription. Measurements: Body length in males 2.50–2.55 mm, in females 2.30–2.85 mm, width in males 1.20–1.25 mm, in females 1.25–1.50 mm; in holotype 2.50 mm and 1.25 mm. Colouration: Body, legs and antennae dark-brown. Vestiture: Body densely covered with dentate at apical margin, recumbent, grey scales and short, lobeshaped, suberect setae, as long as 0.5 of width of interstriae. Ventral surface of body covered with piliform scales and hairs.
Head: Rostrum noticeably conically narrowed at middle, as long as wide (RL/RW = 1.03–1.14). Pterygia clearly visible in dorsal view, noticeably projecting from outline of rostrum. Dorsal margin of antennal scrobes directed to posterior margin of eye. Epifrons at base narrowed, and then parallel-sided, with deep median longitudinal sulcus, not separated from vertex by transverse depression or with weakly visible depression. Eyes small (VW/ELD = 1.91– 2.50), strongly convex, situated below level of vertex. Vertex flat, distinctly, finely, and longitudinally punctate under scales. Antennae: Scape thin, slightly and evenly curved, sharply widened at apical 1/3. Funicle noticeably widened distally; funicular antennomeres: 1st (L/W = 2) and 2nd(L/W = 1.8) elongate; 3rd–6th as long as wide; 7th transverse; club egg-shaped.
Thorax: Pronotum slightly transverse [PL/PW = 0.81–0.88 (0.85)], widest at middle, evenly convex at disc and sides, weakly constricted posteriorly, noticeably constricted apically, finely, densely, and shallowly punctate. Disc with shallow lateral depressions. Elytra: oblong-oval or oval (EL/EW =1.31–1.40), weakly convex at sides in males and strongly convex in females, widest at middle. Disc slightly convex longitudinally. Base strongly sinuate. Striae linear. Punctures deep, slightly separated; spaces between punctures somewhat narrower than diameter of puncture, situated deeper than interstrial level. Interstriae convex, shiny, 2x wider than striae. Legs: Femora moderately swollen in middle part. Protibiae strongly curved, male tibiae noticeably mucronate, metatibiae with large mucro. First tarsomere triangular, 2nd in males strongly, in females weakly transverse. Fifth fore tarsomere extending beyond apical lobes of 3rd by 0.60 length of the lobes.
Abdomen: Male 5th ventrite weakly depressed at apical part, widely rounded apically. Male genitalia: Aedeagus heavily sclerotized, median lobe acute apically, 1.5x shorter than apodemes, endophallus with thin long field of obtuse spicules. Spermatheca with very long ramus and vestigial collum.
Diagnosis. Brachysomus curvimanus is closely related to B. commutatus and B. ponticus , differing by the parallel-sided head capsule, fore tibiae strongly curved inward, s-shaped and knife-shaped acute inner margin of metatibiae, distinctly oblong shape of elytra, form of scales and structure of aedeagus.
Distribution. Turkey (Izmir).
Bionomics. This species inhabits leaf litter in mountain forests at elevations around 1200 m asl.
Type material. TURKEY: Holotype ♂ (BRc): ‘Turkey, vil. Izmir, Boz daðlari, Boz dað köy env., 1200 m, sifting of plant litter, 30.V–3.VI.2003 R. Lohaj’. Paratypes, 2♂, 5♀ (BRc, ZIN): as holotype; 1♀ (BRc): idem, but 30.v.2003 (I. Smetana).
