Diagnosis. TL 13.0– 13.6 mm; TL-H = 12.2–12.9 mm; MW 6.6–7.3 mm; pronotum testaceous with a narrow black band on the anterior and posterior margin; elytron with sublateral and lateral yellowish stripes, subbasal transverse fascia absent, and with apex largely irrorated ( Fig 3B View FIGURE 3 ); protarsomere I without a series of spines across the dorsal surface; metatibia with bifid setae curved ventrad basally on posterior surface; median lobe of aedeagus with apex angulate in lateral view (see Trémouilles 1996).
Differential diagnosis. Hydaticus palliatus is very variable in size, between 12.1–15.4 mm ( Trémouilles 1996) and can be confused with H. inexspectatus . The two species can be separated by their different colour patterns of elytra and shape of median lobes.
Distribution. Hydaticus palliatus is known from Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina ( Trémouilles 1996; Benetti et al. 2003b, 2003b; Benetti & Régil-Cueto 2004; Ferreira (Jr.) & Braga 2009).
Ecology. Knowledge of the biology of Hydaticus palliatus is limited. Trémouilles (1996) reported this species from habitats located in lowlands between 300–700 m (a.s.l).
