The species has been reported from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Surinam, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Central and South America ( Metcalf 1963a; De Santis et al. 2007; Sanborn 2007a). It has been considered a synonym of D. semilata ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels and van der Laan 1985) but the genitalia differ on the two species and they represent distinct taxa. It has been reported from Magdalena in Colombia ( Daniel 1946).
