The species is common in the neotropics having been reported from Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Guyana, Surinam, French Guiana, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Central and South America ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels and van der Laan 1985; Salazar Escobar 2005; Sanborn 2007a). It has been reported from Antioquia, La Pintada, Caldas, Salamina-Río Chamberí and from Bonafont-Cerro Clavijo in Colombia ( Salazar Escobar 2005).
