Epimerella luxtoni View in CoL sp. nov.
Description
Body length: 292–336 mm, body width: 140–160 mm (holotype: 306/ 144 mm) (n 51 holotype, 3 paratypes).
Prodorsum ( Figure 1A View Figure 1 ). The prodorsum represents 1/3 of the body’s length. Rostrum with two separated teeth. Rostral setae (ro) bilaterally ciliated, 16 mm in length. Lamellar setae (le) bilaterally ciliated, 32 mm in length. Interlamellar setae (in) bilaterally ciliated 20 mm in length. Interlamellar setae reaching the insertion points of lamellar setae. Lamellar setae nearer to interlamellar setae than to rostral setae. The le–le distance is shorter than the in–in one. Lamellar costulae present originating in front of the bothridia. Before the bothridial cups, on the prodorsum’s lateral parts, a row of tubercles present on each side. Sensilla fusiform; half of its distal part, slightly dilated, each with 6 mm-long cilia unilaterally. The bothridia cup shaped, laterally-oriented opening.
Notogaster ( Figure 1A View Figure 1 ). Elongated. Crista weakly developed, projecting anteromedially as it is typical of species of the family. Ten pairs of notogastral setae present. Setae c 2 10 mm in length, smooth, curved backward and poorly visible. Remaining notogastral setae long, ciliated. Each of setae la, lm, lp, h 3 and h 2 reaching beyond the insertion point of the succeeding setae. A series of muscular insertion imprints is visible on each lateral side of the notogaster.
Ventral side ( Figure 1B View Figure 1 ). Epimeral borders easily visible. There is a space between all epimera except epimera I. Between epimera III and IV is equal in width to the genital opening. Epimeral setal formula 3–1–3–3. All epimeral setae long, ciliated except setae 1a, 2a and 3a. Genital plate 36 mm in length, and 28 mm in width. Anogenital setal formula 5–1–2–3. Anal plate 52 mm in length, 44 mm in width. Lyrifissures iad situated paraanally. Adanal setae are situated as follows: ad 1 – postanally; ad 2 – paraanally; ad 3 – preanally.
Legs ( Figures 2 View Figure 2 and 3 View Figure 3 ). All legs monodactylous. Setation of leg segments is given in Figures 2 View Figure 2 and 3 View Figure 3 .
Material examined
YÇMP-30, holotype and 3 paratypes.
Etymology
This new species is named for Dr Malcolm Luxton, United Kingdom. Remarks
The new species differs from all other known species of the genus Epimerella based on the following characteristics: (1) rostrum with two separated teeth; (2) presence of costulae; (3) epimera I meeting medially; (4) smooth and short setae 1a, 2a and 3a.
