Material examined. New Caledonia. Cap Mangrove, coll. B. Richer de Forges, 15 Aug. 1994, 1 male CL 9.4 mm, 1 female CL 6.8 mm. Poingam, intertidal, 10 May 1997, coll. B. Richer de Forges, 1 male CL 8.1 mm.
Remarks. The taxonomy and intraspecific morphological variations of this species are discussed in depth by Haig (1964) and Nakasone & Miyake (1971). The variations have been known for the length-breadth ratio of the carpus of the cheliped and development of the dorsoflexor teeth, development of a tuft of plumose setae in the gape of the fingers of cheliped, and armature on the extensor margins of the meri of the amburatory legs.
Distribution. Indonesia, Sulu Islands; then westward through Malay Archipelago to east coast of India; Singapore northward to Tokara Islands, Japan; New Guinea eastward to New Caledonia, Fiji, and Samoa; intertidal, under rocks ( Haig 1979).
