13 (12). Both sexes: genal area (in lateral view) as wide as or wider than eye; metasoma usually broadened backward. Male: eyes broadened downward; antenna relatively long; 2nd flagellomere 1.25–1.7 times as long as its diameter; T2 and T3 with deep transverse depression on anterior portion of discs; metasomal sterna nearly hairless or with short inclined hairs (except for E. kozlovi , S4 and S5 of which bear brushes of long dense inclined plumose hairs). Female: head in front view nearly square; clypeus very short, 2–3 times as wide as high; mandible long, sabre-shaped; inner metatibial spur pectinate, with 3–4 long processes ............................................................... 11. – Both sexes: genal area (in lateral view) narrower than eye (except for males of subgenus Prosopalictus and of E. minutissimus belonging to subgenus Microhalictus ); metasoma usually elongate ellipti- cal (in dorsal view), in some males nearly cylindrical. Male: eyes not broadened downward; antenna shorter (except in E. tarsatus belonging to subgenus Microhalictus ); 2nd flagellomere usually as long as its diameter; T2 and T3 flat or convex on discs, without trasverse depression (except in E. minutissimus ); S2 and subsequent sterna with long, relatively dense, erect hairs on posterior areas. Female: head in front view not quadrate, either rounded-triangular (short or elongate) or elliptical; clypeus higher, at most 1.5 times as wide as high; inner metatibial spur with shorter teeth .. 14
