Currently, 242 species of cicadas belonging to 127 genera and 6 families are registered in the territory of Eastern Latvia. Of these, 4 species – Eurybregma nigrolineata Scott, 1875 ( Delphacidae ), Edwardsiana spinigera (Edwards, 1924) , E. sociabilis (Ossiannilsson, 1936) and Lebradea flavovirens (Gillette & Baker, 1895) ( Cicadellidae ) are listed for the first time for the territory of Latvia, 28 species – for the first time for Eastern Latvia.
It should be noted that L. flavovirens has been recorded in the Baltic States for the first time. Earlier in northern and eastern Europe, the species was recorded only in Sweden, Finland, as well as in Murmansk and Leningrad regions of Russia ( Söderman et al. 2009, Dmitriev et al. 2023). Taking into account the records of species not previously recorded in Latvia, the total list of Latvian cicadas can be extended to 377 species. However, this list can still be expanded ( Vilbaste 1974, Borodin 2015a, Borodin 2015b, Borodin 2015c, Petrašiūnas 2021).
