Exogonia paranaensis Mauro-Barr, Carvalho et Felix sp. nov.

( Figs 39–49 View FIGURES 39–46 View FIGURES 47–49 )

Length: Male holotype, 6.1 mm; male paratypes, 5.7-6.2 mm; female paratypes, 6.5-6.6 mm.

Male holotype. Head ( Figs 39, 40 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in dorsal view, moderately produced anteriorly, anterior margin narrowly rounded; crown with median length approximately 1/2 interocular width and 2/5 transocular width; epicranial, temporal, and frontogenal sutures distinct. Pronotum ( Figs 39, 40 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in dorsal view, with width slightly larger than transocular width. Forewings ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 39–46 ) with membrane distinct on apical portion, including apical cells and apex of anteapical cells.

Dorsum ( Figs 39, 40 View FIGURES 39–46 ) dark brown to black with small pale green to yellow maculae. Crown with narrow pale green areas bordering eyes. Face yellow; lateral portions of frons with dark brown areas extending as narrow stripes over muscle impressions; yellow area of frons extending to anterior margin of crown. Clypeus with dark brown median macula; genae with brown maculae below eyes. Venter pale yellow; proepisternum dark brown with yellow macula; lateral lobes of pronotum dark brown with two yellow maculae, one close to proepisternum and other near posterior margin. Legs yellow.

Pygofer ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in lateral view, with macrosetae on apical half, small setae on posterior margin; with inner process bearing numerous setae on apicoventral margin. Subgenital plates ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in ventral view, narrowing gradually toward apex, with macrosetae near outer margin and some setae on outer margin. Styles ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in dorsal view, extending posteriorly beyond apex of connective; with distinct median lobe on outer margin; portion beyond lobe curved, with few setae; apex truncate. Connective ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in dorsal view, Yshaped; arms broad; stalk narrow. Aedeagus ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 39–46 ) with shaft, in lateral view, slightly curved ventrally; apical portion expanded with distinct dorsal lobe, strongly curved dorsally; in ventral view, with pair of lateral projections on median portion. Paraphyses ( Figs 45, 46 View FIGURES 39–46 ), in dorsal view, with pairs of rami of similar length; stalk approximately as long as rami. Anal tube (segment X), in ventral view, with pair of apical areas on ventral margin with setae similar to those of pygofer processes.

Female genitalia (based on one paratype). Sternite VII ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 47–49 ) broader than long; lateral margins convergent posteriorly; posterior margin somewhat truncate; surface with small setae, mostly on posterior portion. Pygofer ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 47–49 ) as in E. flavomaculata . Second valvulae ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 47–49 ), in lateral view, with basal teeth small and triangular, followed by rectangular ones on median portion and subtriangular ones apically. Other features of second valvulae as in E. flavomaculata .

Intraspecific variation (based on all male and female paratypes). External morphology similar to that of the male holotype, except for the posterior margin of pronotum approximately rectilinear in some paratypes and membrane of forewings sometimes indistinct. The maculae of the dorsum may be darker or those of the forewings may be absent. The maculae of the genae are absent in some paratypes. Legs sometimes pale yellow with apex of tibiae and tarsi brown.

Etymology. The specific epithet, paranaensis , refers to the natives from Paraná State, Brazil.

JOSÉ PINHAIS - PR \ Ser.[ Serra ] Mar Br 277 Km 54\ BRASIL 04.XI.1986 \ Lev.[Levantamento] Ent.[Entomológico] PROFAUPAR\ LÂMPADA” ( DZUP); one male, same data as preceding ones except “ 31.X.1986 ” ( DZUP); two females, “Br 277 Km54\ T .
