Glenea rubricollis (Hope) View in CoL
( Figs 31 View FIGURES 31 – 32 –36)
Colobothea rubricollis Hope, 1842: 111 View in CoL , pl. 10, fig. 8.
Glenea (Rubroglenea) rubricollis: Breuning, 1956: 109 View in CoL .
Supplementary description. Male: length: 20.0–22.0 mm, humeral width: 5.5–6.2 mm. Female: length: 24.5–28.0 mm, humeral width: 7.0–8.0 mm. Eyes medially emarginate, inferior eyelobes slightly longer (male) or subequal to (female) genae below, width subequal to (male) or narrower than (female) half of frons. Frons trapeziform, with a median groove extending to occiput and a small groove from antennal insertion around eyes to gena on each side, punctures fine and sparse. Antennae relative slender, longer (male) or shorter (female) than body; antennomere ratio: male: 22 5 27 25 26 25 22 20 18 17 20; female: 26 5 28 24 26 22 20 17 15 13 15. Prothorax slightly narrower from base to apex, very finely punctured. Elytron densely and coarsely punctured, with a black hair from each puncture, almost arranged in rows; elytron gradually narrower apically, with 2 lateral carinae, nearly reaching apex, apex truncated with a short tooth at suture and relatively long spine at margin. Legs stout, mid tibia grooved, hind femur reaching fifth abdominal segment, first hind tarsal segment shorter than following two segments combined. Male and female claws all simple. Male terminalia (Figs 33a–c): Tegmen length about 3.6 mm; lateral lobes slender, narrower apically, each about 0.7 mm long and 0.15 mm wide, with a finely haired ridge at base (in ventral view), apex with setae shorter than lateral lobes; basal piece not bifurcated distally; median lobe plus median struts slightly curved, slightly longer than tegmen (10:9); median struts about 2/3 of whole median lobe in length; dorsal plate shorter than ventral plate; apex of ventral plate bluntly rounded and slightly projected; median foramen triangle elongated, acute at apex; internal sac about 3 times as long as median lobe plus median struts, with 4 pieces of basal armature and 4 rods; each rod about 2.7 mm long, shorter than tegmen. Tergite VIII (Fig. 34) broader than long, apex nearly truncated or broadly rounded, with short and sparse setae. Ventrite IX subequal to ringed part of tegmen in length. Female terminalia (Figs 35–36): Spermathecal capsule composed of an apical lobe and a curved stalk, apical lobe gradually narrower with apex somewhat projected, stalk shorter than twice apical lobe. Tignum shorter than abdomen.
FIGURES 33–36. Terminalia of G. rubricollis (Hope) . 33. male genitalia. a. ventral view. b. lateral view. c. dorsal view. 34. Tergite VIII and ventrites VIII & IX in ventral view. 35–36. spermathecal capsule, from India. Scale 1 mm.
Diagnosis. Differs from G. nigrorubricollis Lin et Yang sp. nov in very different female genitalia and lacking reddish yellow stripes on frons.
Remarks. This species was recorded from Guangdong, Hainan, Laos and India. According to our study, the specimens from Guangdong should be G. nigrorubricollis Lin et Yang sp. nov, and those from Laos may be another species. We only found one female specimen from Hainan Island, which differs from G. rubricollis ( India) in having orange stripes on frons and between antennal insertions and differs from G. nigrorubricollis in having third antennomere much longer than fourth. Further studies on these specimens are warranted.
Distribution. Vietnam (new record), India.
