The genus Zalonema Cobb, 1920 (Desmodorinae) differs from the other genera of this subfamily by having a finely annulated cuticle, not marked by any longitudinal structures or lateral differentiation, a well-developed rounded triangular cephalic capsule, large and multispiral amphideal fovea, and presence of subcephalic setae ( Verschelde & Vincx 1996; Verschelde et al. 1998; Tchesunov 2014).
