Genus Ascophrys Campillo et Deroux, 1974: 1447
Ciliates with complex life cycle including trophont, phoront and tomite stages, parasiting the cuticle of decapod crustacean hosts. Phoront is rounded, flat, cystte, attached to the surface of the crustacean host cuticle with its expanded circle-like base in centre of which there is tube-like organelle. Macronucleus is long, bend-like, and circular. Throphont is cystte, large, elongated. Reproduction by non-linear synchronous palintomy with the formation of numerous tomites. Tomite is flat, with U-shaped macronucleus, without cytostome, with an adhesive organelle on one side and several ciliary rows on the other side.
Type species Аscophrys rodor Campіllo et Deroux, 1974 .
