Type Locality: Ecuador, Andes.
Vernacular Names: Mountain Paca.
Synonyms: Cuniculus andina (Lönnberg 1913) ; Cuniculus sierrae (Thomas 1905) .
Distribution: Mountains of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and NW Venezuela.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt) as Agouti taczanowskii .
Discussion: Placed in Stictomys by Cabrera (1961:595) and in Agouti by Handley (1976:55) and Gardner (1971:1088). Karyotype has 2n=42 and FN=80 ( Gardner, 1971).
