Type species — Albacillium hingganense M.M. Ding & L.J. Xu. sp. nov.

Colonies on MEA, white, smooth, velvet, margin entire; reverse pale yellow to brown. Colonies on OA white, smooth, felty, margin entire; reverse white to pale yellow. Colonies on PDA white, smooth, velvet, nearly round to round, margin entire; reverse pale yellow. Hyphae hyaline, smooth, branched, septate. Phialides arising from aerial hyphae, hyaline, solitary, lateral, smooth, short to slender, straight to flexuous, tapering towards the apex. Conidia ellipsoidal to cymbiform, straight to slightly curved, hyaline, aseptate, smooth-walled, eguttulate or with 1–2 small guttulae, arranged in mucoid globose heads at the apices of the phialides. Sexual morph absent.

Diagnosis: — Colonies white, velvet, margin entire; Phialides arising from aerial hyphae, hyaline, solitary, lateral, tapering towards the apex; Conidia ellipsoidal to cymbiform, hyaline, aseptate, arranged in mucoid globose heads at the apices of the phialides.

Etymology:—Referring to the white colonies of the type species.

Habitat:—Forest litters (fallen leaves and soil).

Known Distribution:—Greater Hinggan mountains, Heilongjiang province, China.

Notes: — Albacillium is an acremonium -like genus which currently accommodates only one species, A. hingganense . According to the multi-gene phylogenetic analysis, the closest genus of Albacillium was Chlorocillium and they formed a monophyletic group which is basal to the clade Clavicipitaceae with moderate support (86/1). Therefore, both Albacillium and Chlorocillium belong to Clavicipitaceae based on the multi-gene (ITS, LSU, rpb1, rpb2, SSU, and tef1) phylogenetic analysis. Albacillium is distinct from Chlorocillium and other close taxa by having white colonies and conidia arranged in mucoid globose heads at the apices of solitary phialides arising from hyphae.
