Scrobipalpa strictella sp. n.

Type material. Holotype 3, China: Mt. Xiantai, Jingxing (38°01' N, 114°01' E), Hebei Province, 1200 m, 23.vii.2000, leg. Haili Yu, genitalia slide no. LZD01055. Paratypes: 1 3, Suopu, She County (36°34ˏ N, 113°40ˏ E), Hebei Province, 700 m, 1.viii.2000, genitalia slide no. LZD01085; 1 Ƥ, Qingta, She County (36°34' N, 113°40' E), Hebei Province, 700 m, 2.viii.2000, genitalia slide no. LZD 0 1092.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 10 ): Wingspan 10.0–11.0 mm. Head, thorax and tegula covered with light grey, brown-tipped scales. Labial palpus upcurved; segment 2 brown with light grey scales near base and near apex, inner surface off-white; segment 3 white with black basal ring and black apex. Antennal segments black with broad white basal rings. Forewing covered with light grey, brown-tipped scales, mottled ochreous scales, mainly in subapical area and along veins in basal half; indistinct diffused black spot surrounded by ochreous scales in middle of cell; cilia grey, black-tipped. Hindwing and cilia light grey.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 27, 28 ): Uncus sub-rectangular, distinctly longer than broad, weakly narrowed distally, apex slightly rounded. Gnathos comparatively small, apex curved. Tegumen of moderate width. Valva moderately expanded in distal one-third, distinctly exceeding top of uncus. Sacculus slightly shorter than half length of valva, outer margin weakly curved, inner margin straight, apex small, curved inwards. Paired processes on posterior margin of vinculum narrow, curved outward apically, about two-thirds length of sacculus; medial excision broad and deep, nearly U-shaped. Saccus narrow, pointed apically. Aedeagus distinctly flattened basally, distal portion straight, with curved apical cornutus.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 44 ): Papilla analis sub-oval, prolonged, covered with short setae. Apophysis anterioris direct, distinctly shorter than segment VIII. Segment VIII nearly rectangular, distinctly longer than broad, weakly sclerotized. Vaginal plates relatively broad, separated by membranous incision. Postvaginal plates digitate, narrow, weakly sclerotized, not exceeding anterior margin of sternite VIII, separated by deep and broad anterior incision. Ductus bursae broad; cingulum narrow. Corpus bursae sub-oval; signum hookshaped, weakly curved medially, serrated basally.

Diagnosis. Scrobipalpa strictella sp. n. is similar externally to S. parki Povolný , S. pauperella (Heinemann, 1870) and S. artemisiella (Treitschke) by having dark-brown forewing mottled ochreous. The male genitalia resemble those of S. turcica Povolný, 2002 and S. flavidinigra sp. n. (see above), but differ from S. turcica in the shorter and broader uncus, the longer valva and the differently shaped processes of vinculum; it differs from S. flavidinigra sp. n. in the broader uncus, the broader sacculus and the narrower paired processes of vinculum. The male genitalia are also similar to those of S. heretica Povolný, 1973 , but differ in the longer valva, the narrower saccus and the longer uncus without apical incision. The female genitalia resemble those of S. obsoletella F.R., but differ in the smaller and shorter signum.

Biology. Host-plant unknown. Adults were collected in end of June and early August at altitude between 700 m and 1200 m.

Distribution. China (Hebei).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin strictus – narrow, indicating the narrow sacculus and vinculum processes in the male genitalia.
