03C787F0B11D6064FF74FB098EB1FD6A.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. This species differs from Mythenteles signifera Evenhuis & Kettani, 2018 (Chefchaouen, Morocco), M. hispanicola Evenhuis & Blasco-Zumeta, 2003 (Salamanca and Zaragoza, Spain), and M. infrequens Evenhuis & Blasco-Zumeta, 2003 (Málaga and Zaragoza, Spain) by having a completely black scutellum. This species is closer to M. andalusica Gibbs, 2007 (Málaga, Granada, and Salamanca, Spain) by having black mesonotum and scutellum but differs by having a longer Sc, ending at level slightly before than origin of vein R 2 + 3, and by having different genitalia (i. e., epandrium without posterior depression in ventral view and aedeagal bulb with only two lateral rami).	en	Suárez, Daniel, Lugo, David, Santos-Perdomo, Irene, Duque, Amanhuy, Pérez-Delgado, Antonio José, Ruiz, Carlos (2025): Taxonomic review of the family Mythicomyiidae (Diptera, Asiloidea) in the Canary Islands. 03C787F0B1166068FF74FF4E8DA8FCFA.taxon	discussion	Remarks: Becker (1908) and Frey (1958) reported Cephalodromia nitens for Tenerife, El Hierro, and Fuerteventura. Two individuals from Tenerife stored in the Finnish Museum of Natural History (Helsinki, Finland) collected by Frey and one individual from Tenerife stored in the Museum für Naturkunde (Berlin, Germany) collected by Becker were examined, and their habitus fitted with C. bicolor. Although two individuals had a black mesonotum (i. e., the three longitudinal bands were fused), the black scutellum with yellow margin allows us to rule out C. nitens, which has a completely black scutellum. Santos Abreu (1926) also reported C. nitens for La Palma. He mentioned that it had a shiny black thorax, with yellow shoulders. In the same work, he described C. bicolor and stated that it had a yellow thorax with three shiny black longitudinal bands. In the present contribution, by examining a relatively large series of specimens, we were able to observe that this species displays a variable mesonotum pattern, with some individuals showing the typical longitudinal bands (as in the original description) while others lacked the bands and, instead, those were fused into a single wide black mark. Even in the locality of Barranco de Ruiz, two individuals showed a mesonotum with three bands while one had the bands fused. Male genitalia were examined in the two different forms, and they turned out to be identical, thus confirming that they belong to the same species. Thus, the presence of C. nitens in the Canary Islands is rejected. Instead, those records belong to C. bicolor.	en	Suárez, Daniel, Lugo, David, Santos-Perdomo, Irene, Duque, Amanhuy, Pérez-Delgado, Antonio José, Ruiz, Carlos (2025): Taxonomic review of the family Mythicomyiidae (Diptera, Asiloidea) in the Canary Islands. 03C787F0B112606FFF74FA37880DFE2E.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Using the key of Evenhuis et al. (2023) this species runs to Empidideicus hackmani François, 1969 but differs from it by having different male genitalia (i. e., epandrium obcordiform in ventral view, aedeagal bulb inverted cup-shaped, and longer and wider gonostylus). The combination of grey mesonotum without markings, yellow scutellum, long fork of veins M 1 - M 2, black abdomen, and greyish halter knob and stem rules out E. hispanus François, 1969 (Spain), E. carthaginiensis Becker, 1907 (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Tunisia, Sudan), E. hungaricus Thalhammer, 1991 (Hungary, Malta, Corsica, Crimea), and E. insularis Frey, 1958 (Cape Verde).	en	Suárez, Daniel, Lugo, David, Santos-Perdomo, Irene, Duque, Amanhuy, Pérez-Delgado, Antonio José, Ruiz, Carlos (2025): Taxonomic review of the family Mythicomyiidae (Diptera, Asiloidea) in the Canary Islands. 03C787F0B1106071FF74FE4B8FA7FF16.taxon	diagnosis	Diagnosis. Using the key of Evenhuis et al. (2023) this species runs to Empidideicus blascoi Evenhuis, Almeida & Andrade, 2023 but differs from it by having different male genitalia (i. e., aedeagal bulb ending at the level of parameral sheath, aedeagal apodeme with two large lateral rami, and epandrium in lateral view without apicoventral process). The combination of yellow scutellum and yellow mesonotum with three longitudinal black bands from postpronotal lobe to postalar callus rules out E. hispanus François, 1969 (Spain) and E. carthaginesis Becker, 1907 (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Tunisia, Sudan). This species is close to E. hungaricus Thalhammer, 1991 (Hungary, Malta, Corsica, Crimea) but differs from it by having wider black bands and with subsequent thinner, or even absent in some individuals, yellow mark between black bands and by having lateral bands lacking a median constriction and ending straight in the posterior margin of the mesonotum.	en	Suárez, Daniel, Lugo, David, Santos-Perdomo, Irene, Duque, Amanhuy, Pérez-Delgado, Antonio José, Ruiz, Carlos (2025): Taxonomic review of the family Mythicomyiidae (Diptera, Asiloidea) in the Canary Islands.
