The lectotype male of Pelidnota laniventris Sturm, 1843 is listed as present in BMNH by Moore et al. (2017). The lectotype designation by M.A. Morón was inferred from his specimen label, but we could find no evidence of this designation being published. In the interest of consistency with the published literature Moore et al. (2017), and to clarify the application of the name Pelidnota laniventris Sturm, 1843, the specimen with number NHMUK 014589626 is here designated as lectotype.

The specimen with the NHMUK number 014589627 is a syntype of the junior synonym P. latipennis, and it has been labelled accordingly. Its presence in BMNH was not mentioned by Moore et al. (2017). A loose tarsus from this specimen is pinned below the specimen in a gelatine capsule.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03F287F1FF98FF9DFF62784BFC907F2C	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. PANAMA (11): Chiriquí. NO DATA (3).

Remarks. The holotype of Plusiotis optima H.W. Bates, 1888 (Fig. 18) is reported by Moore et al. (2017). The holotype represents the relatively pale red colour morph. For many years, a rumour suggested that the type specimen was discoloured by exposure to light while on display in the museum’s public galleries (e.g., M. Fitton personal communication to M.V.L.B., 2002); however, the specimen is the same colour on the underside which would have been shaded, a red colour morph of this species is known to exist, no evidence was found that this specimen was on display, and the coloration is not consistent with light damage, so this rumour is here discounted. The specimen with unique NHMUK number “015550839” represents a golden colour morph, All the other specimens are the most common colour, metallic silver.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03F287F1FF96FFAFFF627DCAFE1F7D30	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
