03FEDB6EFFE7FFF6FE68EEA3FCC0CB13.taxon	description	Notes. The species was collected from moist, shady localities such as gorges, caves, and streams predominantly with oleander bushes (Nerium oleander L.), being probably commoner near streams in gorges and canyons. This species is an Eastern Mediterranean species found in Cyprus, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Italy, and Malta (Sharaf 2006; Janicki et al. 2016; Guénard et al. 2017) (probably introduced in the latter two countries), while in Greece it is known from the Aegean Islands (Lesvos) (Borowiec et al. 2024), the Dodecanese (Samos, Kos) and Crete (Salata et al. 2021).	en	Demetriou, Jakovos, Georgiadis, Christos, Salata, Sebastian, Koutsoukos, Evangelos, Borowiec, Lech, Triantis, Kostas A. 03FEDB6EFFE7FFF7FE66EC22FDE7CFD3.taxon	description	Surrounding islets. Ofidoussa (Scupola and Borowiec 2023). Notes. A species widespread in Cyprus and Turkey. Its distribution in Greece spans across the south-eastern Aegean islands bordering the coasts of Turkey (Borowiec and Salata 2025); as such, its presence on Astypalaia could be well justified. Nevertheless, on Astypalaia the species was found only in urban areas near the island’s port (Pera Gialos) and nearby inside its capital (Chora), despite the evident habitat suitability across the island. Aphaenogaster sporadis was observed nesting near houses and / or premises under renovation, which may indicate its import through construction material from neighbouring larger islands such as Rodos. Its limited distribution may be attributed to its rather recent introduction to Astypalaia. Therefore, we speculate that the species may have been introduced onto the island from neighbouring regions where it is native, deeming it an alien within Greece. In the case of the species being native to the island, it is rather strange that such a common, granivorous species with large colonies was not observed during the spring season in phrygana or agricultural sites throughout the island. However, the record of the species from the uninhabited islet of Ofidoussa (Borowiec et al. 2021; Scupola and Borowiec 2023) casts more doubt and highlights the need for further investigation of the range of A. sporadis in the Aegean.	en	Demetriou, Jakovos, Georgiadis, Christos, Salata, Sebastian, Koutsoukos, Evangelos, Borowiec, Lech, Triantis, Kostas A. 03FEDB6EFFE5FFF5FE07EFD3FE0ACDE0.taxon	description	Notes. According to the most recent revision of the genus Lasius sensu stricto by Seifert (2020) this species complex includes six species, amongst which L. turcicus, L. neglectus, L. precursor and L. tapinomoides can be found in Greece (Borowiec and Salata 2022). However, L. turcicus, L. neglectus and L. precursor are hard to distinguish based on morphological characters.	en	Demetriou, Jakovos, Georgiadis, Christos, Salata, Sebastian, Koutsoukos, Evangelos, Borowiec, Lech, Triantis, Kostas A. 03FEDB6EFFE4FFFAFE44EFF0FE1ECDC7.taxon	description	Surrounding islets. Agia Kyriaki (Scupola and Borowiec 2023). Notes. A species thought to be alien to Greece, having data from the South Aegean and Crete (Salata et al. 2019; Demetriou et al. 2023). In addition to being prevalent in urban and agricultural areas on Astypalaia, the species appears to be well integrated into dry natural habitats (beaches, phrygana, dry streams, maquis), implying a long existence on the island (since antiquity).	en	Demetriou, Jakovos, Georgiadis, Christos, Salata, Sebastian, Koutsoukos, Evangelos, Borowiec, Lech, Triantis, Kostas A.
