Adult male. Length 1.4–1.6 mm (mean 1.5 mm, n = 4), holotype 1.6 mm (from tip of head to wing apices). Forewing length 1.1–1.3 mm (mean 1.2, n = 4), holotype 1.3 mm. General color, in alcohol, pale yellow. Antennae 18–segmented, unmodified; each with scapus cylindrical, pedicel cylindrical, apical flagellomere short and with small projection (Fig. 2A). Ocelli absent. Posterior setal warts of head triangular. Maxillary palps 5- segmented; labial palps 3-segmented. Legs covered by golden setae, tibial spur formula 0–2–3. Wings unmodified, without flaky patches; fore- and hind wings with main veins present (Figs 2B, 2C). Forewings, in alcohol, uniformly brown, with light brown setae; each with Sc incomplete, ending just after middle of wing length; apical forks 1, 2, and 3 present (Fig. 2B). Hind wings narrow, more acute than forewings; each with Sc incomplete; apical forks 1 and 2 present (Fig. 2C). Mesoscutellum with transverse suture. Metascutellum rectangular, short and wide. Sternite VII without apicomesal process (Figs 2E, 2F).

Male genitalia. Segment VIII annular. Segment IX reduced ventrally; anterior margin concave with elongate anterolateral apodemes extending into segment VI in dorsal and ventral views (Figs 2D, 2E); ventrally above bases of inferior appendages with posteromesal margin deeply U–shaped in ventral view (Fig. 2E); posterior process with rounded apex in lateral view (Fig. 2F). Tergum X membranous with deep V–shaped incision in dorsal view (Fig. 2D); lobate in lateral view (Fig. 2F). Inferior appendages long, slightly sinuous, each with projecting and round apex in ventral view (Fig. 2E); triangular, slightly upturned and pointed posterodorsal in lateral view (Fig. 2F). Flintiella quiteriae sp. nov. shares the following characters of male genitalia with F. andreae Angrisano 1995 and F. heredia Harris, Flint & Holzenthal 2002b: mesal U–shaped notch posteroventrally in the segment IX, inferior appendages long and rectangular, and subgenital plate divided into two contiguous arms. However, the new species can be distinguished from F. heredia by sternite VII of the new species being without an apicomesal process (Figs 3E, 3F) and from F. andreae and F. heredia by the inferior appendages each having a short subapical projection on the ventromesal margin (Fig. 3E) and having the phallus apex deeply incised (Fig. 3H). The new species shares the deeply incised phallus apex with F. carajas Santos, Jardim & Nessimian 2011, F. serrana Gama Neto, Ribeiro, & Passos 2020, F. panamensis, F. tamaulipasa, and F. yanamona . Flintiella quiteriae sp. nov. differs from F. carajas, F. panamensis, and F. yanamona by sternum VII lacking an apicomesal process (Figs 3E, 3F). It can be easily distinguished from F. serrana by its mesal posteroventral U–shaped notch of segment IX (Fig. 3E), by its long inferior appendages each with a short subapical projection on the ventromesal margin (Fig. 3E), and by the subgenital plate divided into two continuous arms in ventral and lateral views (Figs 3E, 3F). This new species also differs from F. serrana and F. tamaulipasa by the phallus having its acute apex curved upward in lateral view (Fig. 3H), curved to the left, with its right lobe folded beneath the left in dorsal view (Fig. 3G), and the ejaculatory duct protruding beneath those lobes in lateral view (Fig. 3H).

Etymology. This species is named in honor of Maria Quitéria de Jesus, the first woman to join the Brazilian Army (1822–1823), for her important contribution to the independence of Brazil.

Distribution. Flintiella triaena was described based on a unique specimen. The original description indicated for the genitalia that the inferior appendages were “spread posterolaterad, possibly as a result of KOH treatment” (Gama Neto et al. 2020). The authors also mentioned the unusual “trident-like” subgenital plate, allowing the identification of the species. However, based on our reexamination of the holotype and comparison with two additional specimens from the state of Mato Grosso, we confirm that the inferior appendages and the arms of the subgenital plate of the holotype appear to have been separated during the clearing process. In this way, Flintiella triaena has the typical male genitalia as other species in this genus with the subgenital plate divided into three contiguous arms as long as the inferior appendages (Figs 5D, 5E). Based on male genitalia (Figs 5C–5 G and Gama Neto et al. 2020, figs 3A–3E), F. triaena resembles F. carajas, particularly in the shape of the inferior appendages and the subgenital plate. However, F. triaena can be easily distinguished by: (1) sternite VII without an apicomesal process (Figs 5D, 5E and Gama Neto et al. 2020, fig. 3A); (2) segment IX has a mesal U–shaped notch posteroventrally in ventral view (Fig. 5D and Gama Neto et al. 2020, fig. 3B, but broader in the latter illustration); (3) each inferior appendage has a short subapical projection in the ventromesal margin (Fig. 5D and Gama Neto et al. 2020, fig. 3B); (4) the subgenital plate is divided into three contiguous arms as long as inferior appendages (Fig. 5D and Gama Neto et al. 2020, fig. 3B, but divergent in the latter illustration, apparently as a result of the clearing process); and (5) the phallus is deeply divided distally, with a mesoventral process and the ejaculatory duct protruding from its apex (Figs 5F, 5 G and Gama Neto et al. 2020, figs 3D, 3E). Here, we also describe and provide the first illustration of the wing venation of the male of F. triaena . Fore- and hind wings with main veins present. Forewings, in alcohol, uniformly brown, with light brown setae; each with Sc incomplete, apical forks 1, 2, and 3 present (Fig. 5A). Hind wings narrow; Sc incomplete; apical forks 1 and 2 present (Fig. 5B); edges with long setal fringes.

Distribution.
