Chloeia candida Kinberg, 1857 Indeterminable

Chloeia candida Kinberg, 1857: 11, 1910: 33, Pl. 11, Fig. 2A–G; Baird 1868: 231; Hartman 1949: 37; Hartman 1959: 131; Yáñez-Rivera & Salazar-Vallejo 2022: 529–530 (indeterm.).

Remarks. The specific derivation is enigmatic; the Latin word candidus (a, um) means white. However, the illustration for the dorsal view of a complete specimen (Kinberg 1910, Pl. 11, Fig. 2A) shows a middorsal dark spot, resembling C. viridis Schmarda, 1861 . Hartman (1949: 37) regarded C. candida as a juvenile of C. viridis Schmarda, 1861 . This might imply a need to call for a reversal of priority. However, because the species name was based on a juvenile, and the original description indicated bipinnate branchiae were present from chaetiger 2, it was regarded as indeterminable (Yáñez-Rivera & Salazar-Vallejo 2022).
