filicornis Saussure, 1859b: 332 [ Julus].
Vera-Cruz. Unspecified series.
Saussure (1860) gave a more detailed description of the ♀ without mentioning the ♂ or the number of specimens. Saussure & Humbert (1872) gave a description of the ♂, stating that they had received a number of specimens of both sexes from Cuernavaca. The MHNG collection includes one card-mounted ♂ under the name Paraiulus filicornis, and a ♀ specimen in alcohol under the name Julus filicornis . The specimen in alcohol is labelled “Cuernavaca” while the dry specimen is labelled “Vera Cruz, Mexique, Mr de Saussure.” The specimen from Cuernavaca is presumably the one received after the publication of the description and not part of the type series. The specimen from Vera Cruz could be part of the type series but the original description appears to have been based on only the ♀ characters and so its status is dubious. Hoffman (1999) regarded the generic position as uncertain.
