mexicanus Saussure, 1859b: 332 [ Julus].

Mexique. Unspecified series.

Saussure (1860) gave a more detailed redescription of both sexes, indicating that he had many specimens from numerous localities. Carl (1919) described and illustrated the gonopods. The MHNG collection contains four cardmounted ♂ specimens, eight card-mounted ♀ specimens and one ♂ specimen in alcohol under the name Spirobolus mexicanus . The card-mounted specimens have labels indicating that they were collected on Saussure’s expedition (one ♀ lacks a label). The specimen in alcohol was collected by Sumichrast, labelled as a type and is the one studied by Carl. All these specimens are syntypes. There are further syntypes in the ZMHB (Moritz & Fischer, 1975; ZMB210) and in the MNHN (MY3487) according to their online database.
