Comments: This species is listed as vulnerable to extinction by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (Hatfield et al. 2015) and had a USFWS positive 90-day finding (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 2021) and awaits a listing decision. It has experienced precipitous declines in much of its range but remains locally abundant in some areas of western Minnesota.

Taxonomy: Hurd & Linsley (1951); Onuferko et al. (2021). Following Onuferko et al. (2021), we treat the genus Xeromelecta as a junior synonym of Brachymelecta .
