Clarias leiacanthus Bleeker, 1851b: Choy & Chin, 1994: 764 (Belalong-Temburong basin upstream of Kuala Belalong); Kottelat and Lim 1995: 242; Sulaiman & Shahdan, 2003: 61 (Tasek Merimbun); Sulaiman & Shahdan, 2007: 18 (Tasek Merimbun).
Clarias teijsmanni Bleeker, 1857: Choy & Chin, 1994: 764 (Belalong-Temburong basin upstream of Kuala Belalong); Kottelat & Lim, 1995: 242; Parenti & Meisner, 2003: 44 (upper, middle and lower Belait).
Clarias teijsmanii Bleeker, 1857: Sulaiman & Shahdan, 2003: 61 (Tasek Merimbun); Sulaiman & Shahdan, 2007: 19 (Tasek Merimbun).
Remarks. Clarias teijsmanni Bleeker is presently regarded as a junior synonym of Clarias leiacanthus (see
Kottelat, 2013: 243). The citation of both names by Choy & Chin (1994) from the Belalong basin, and Sulaiman & Shahdan (2007) from Tasek Merimbun, is a strong indication that there are two species involved. From material obtained at Tasek Merimbun, Sulaiman & Shahdan (2003: 61) identified Clarias leiacanthus by the white edges to its median fins and C. teijsmanni, by its squarish head and ‘darker colour’.
