Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Coad (2014: 204); confirmed by Coad (2015: 228).— Afghanistan materials: CMN, USNM.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Helmand River.—General distribution: Middle East and South Asia: Afghanistan and Iran.—Habitat: This species is benthopelagic and has been reported from pools in dry riverbeds and still, reedy channels. Freshwater.

Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: LC (Devi & Bogutskaya 2009c).—Threats: HAB, EUT.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.
