Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Moravec and Amin (1978); confirmed by Coad (1981: 11; 2014: 318).—Afghanistan materials: CMN.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: Yangtze River basin, China; introduced somewhere.—Habitat: This species is found in slow-moving waters such as lakes, ponds, and agricultural canals. Dependent on molluscs for reproductive cycles, but apparently no specific host. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Has potential to be used as aquarium fish.
Reasons of introduction. Unknown: Inadvertently introduced by transboundary waterways for no known reason or method.
Conservation. Not relevant (introduced species).
