Taxonomy. Original description: Schizothorax pelzami Kessler, 1870: 320, pl. 3, figs. 1–3 [Shah-rud River, northeastern Iran; syntypes: (4) BMNH 1897.7.5.24 [ex ZIN] (1), ZIN 8036 [ex ZMMU] (1)].— Afghanistan synonyms: Schizothorax pelzami iranicus Karaman, 1969; Schizothorax raulinsii Günther, 1889 .—Revisions: Berg (1949: 717).—Illustration: Berg (1949: 717, fig. 476).

Status in Afghanistan. Reported from Afghanistan in original description of Schizothorax raulinsii by Günther (1889: 108); confirmed by Coad (1981: 12; 2014: 223; 2015: 228).—Afghanistan materials: BMNH.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Mugrab, Tedzhen, Germab and Harirud Rivers.—General distribution: Hari and Kavir drainages, Iran.—Habitat: This species inhabits rivers and streams. Freshwater.

Economic importance. Locally commercially important.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: LC (Devi & Bogutskaya 2009d).—Threats: HAB, EUT, ABS.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.
