Diagnosis. General coloration of body and antennae brown to orange brown, except for antennomere IV white to pale yellow centrally, with brown base and apex (Fig. 18 B). Head, pronotum, connexives, and posterolateral margins of abdominal sternite VII covered by small black denticles. Pronotum with midline and humeral angles lighter; anterior lobe with a pair of subtriangular pruinose areas. Forewing with a basal white macula starting from humeral angle and ending adjacent to posterior margin of pronotum; in front of it another pale longitudinal stripe; on side, starting from cubital vein, another pale stripe surrounding the wing; at apex a rounded white macula (Fig. 18 B). Male abdominal sternite VII centrally slightly flattened, without projections. Male proctiger with a distinct dorsal elevation on anterior half and small black denticles on apex. Paramere elongated with rounded apex (Fig. 20 D). Female proctiger covered by small black denticles.
Discussion. This species was known so far from the records mentioned in the original description, La Plata in Argentina and in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Mazzucconi (2000) cites that, despite the original record from La Plata, its occurrence in the region of Buenos Aires seemed doubtful, because it had never been collected there by local researchers. Paravelia ornata sp. nov. (Fig. 10) is a similar species, especially because of the resemblance of the forewing maculae, body color, and small black denticles covering great part of the body (see discussion on P. ornata sp. nov.).
Material examined. Brazil, Mato Grosso: 2 macropterous females (DPIC), Novo Santo Antônio, Rio São João Grande, 11.VIII.2003, (S.O. Pagioro); 1 macropterous female (DPIC), same data, except 20.VI.2004 [first record from Mato Grosso State]. Mato Grosso do Sul: 3 macropterous males (DZRJ), Aquidauana, Rio Negro Farm, 04.IX.2007, (J.L. Nessimian) [first record from Mato Grosso do Sul State].
