TYPE LOCALITY: China, Shanxi (Shansi), Chao Cheng Shan (= Mt. Nanyan Shan), 8000 ft; 37°54'N, 111°30'E (as restricted by Kaneko, 1992:93) .

DISTRIBUTION: Shanxi and Hebei provinces, China (see Kaneko, 1992).

SYNONYMS: jeholicus.

COMMENTS: Regarded by Allen (1940), Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951), Gromov and Polyakov (1977), and Hinton (1926) as a member of Evotomys or Clethrionomys rufocanus, but Corbet (1978c) and Kaneko (1992) reassociated the species with Eothenomys .
