TYPE SPECIES: Rhombomys pallidus Wagner, 1841 (= Meriones opimus Lichtenstein, 1823).

COMMENTS: Reviewed by Corbet (1978c). The tribe Rhombomyini contains this genus along with Sekeetamys, Meriones, Brachiones, and Psammomys (Pavlinov et al., 1990) .
