Echiothrix leucura Gray, 1867 . Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1867:600.

TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, N Sulawesi. Gray thought the holotype came from Australia, but Jentink (1883) thought the species would prove to be found only on Sulawesi, and Laurie and Hill (1954) listed the type locality as probably N Sulawesi .

DISTRIBUTION: Sulawesi: N arm and C core in tropical lowland evergreen rain forest (Musser, 1990; Musser and Holden, 1991).

SYNONYMS: brevicula, centrosa .

COMMENTS: External, cranial, and dental morphology reviewed by Musser (1969b, 1990), karyotype of male documented by Musser (1990).
