TYPE LOCALITY: Zaire, Marais Mukaba, Parc National du Kahuzi-Biega .

DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Lophuromys . Apparently occurs in swampy areas above 2000 m in montane regions of central African Rift Valley. The specific status of cinereus was questioned by Dieterlen (1987).
