DISTRIBUTION: Endemic to Guadalcanal Isl.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Cyromys . Although originally described as a species of Uromys, it was transferred to Melomys (Ellerman, 1941; Rümmler, 1938), placed back in Uromys (Tate, 1951), again put in Melomys (Laurie and Hill, 1954), and has currently been returned to Uromys (Flannery and Wickler, 1990; Groves and Flannery, in litt.).
