TYPE LOCALITY: Papua New Guinea, Central Prov., Brown River, Efogi, "not less than" 4000 ft .
DISTRIBUTION: New Guinea; throughout the Central Cordillera from Weyland Range in the west to Mt Dayman in the east as well as the Huon Peninsula (see map in Flannery, 19906:219).
SYNONYMS: rothschildi .
COMMENTS: Subgenus Uromys . Closely related to U. neobritanicus .
