COMMENTS: Diagnosis, morphological and chromosomal characteristics, and general remarks on habits, habitat, distribution, geologic range, fossil groups, and phylogenetic relationships within the subfamily and with other muroid groups were provided by Carleton and Musser (1984). Results of phylogenetic analysis of living and some extinct species were reported by Lawrence (1991).
