TYPE LOCALITY: Peru, Amazonas Dept., Leimabamba, Alto Utcubamba, 2400 m .
DISTRIBUTION: Mountains of N Peru.
SYNONYMS: orientalis .
COMMENTS: Subgenus Akodon . Although initially described as a subspecies of A. mollis, Osgood (1943: 197) later removed orophilus as a distinct species, at which rank it has since remained (Cabrera, 1961; Reig, 1987). Level of differentiation from A. torques, which Cabrera (1961) arranged as a subspecies of A. orophilus, uncertain.
