TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Veracruz, Mirador (as restricted by Hooper, 1952:140) .

DISTRIBUTION: S Tamaulipas and WC Michoacan, Mexico, south through Middle American highlands to W Panama; Andes of W Colombia and N Ecuador.

SYNONYMS: cherrii, costaricensis, garichensis, goldmani, howelli, jalapae, lucifrons, minusculus, ocotepequensis, orinus, potrerograndei, riparius, scansor.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Aporodon, mexicanus species group.
