Rhipidomys couesi (J. A. Allen and Chapman, 1893) . Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 5:214.

TYPE LOCALITY: Trinidad, Princes Town .

DISTRIBUTION: Trinidad, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

SYNONYMS: cumananus, goodfellowi, modicus .

COMMENTS: Cabrera (1961) identified couesi as a subspecies of R. sclateri. As emphasized by its original describer Thomas (1887b), sclateri closely resembles Peruvian R. leucodactylus, and, in both Venezuela (see Handley, 1976) and Peru, R. couesi and R. leucodactylus are morphologically distinct.
