NOTES: (a) Farrier & Hennessey (1993: 24) considered A. brevichelis to be a junior synonym of Arctoseius eremitus (Berlese) . We adopt the interpretation of Kalúz & Fenďa (2005: 93), who considered them to be different species, mainly based on the longer peritreme of A. eremitus; (b) in a personal communication, O. Makarova informed us that other differences between these species exist in the cheliceral structure and the sizes of the corniculus, claw of leg I and anal shield. She also informed us that the very narrow deutosternal groove of this species, as illustrated in the original description, may be unusual for this genus, but figure 11b of that description appears to represent a very distorted specimen; (c) Gwiazdowicz et al. (2008a: 30) reported that a slide in the C. Willmann collection, deposited at Zoologischen Staatssammlung München, Germany, contained the following information on the label “W 34/32, Lasioseius oculatus Type, W, M, Gl 2, 0–5, det. C. Willmann, Syn. Arctoseius brevicheles Karg, 1969 ”; that slide contained a female and a male identified in that paper as A. brevicheles .
