TYPE LOCALITY AND HABITAT: Guanajuato, Mexico, associated with coccid [Animalia: Coccidae].
NOTES: Banks (1904: 58) illustrated Laelaps mexicanus but did not provide any description. Banks (1905: 138) made the name available by providing the description. Chant (1963: 295) questioned the placement of this species in Lasioseius, arguing that it could belong to Melichares, which could only be done with the examination of the type specimens, which were lost.
