REMARKS.—One of the species with infuscation in the distal hind wing anal cell 2. It can be distinguished by the ovoid body shape, large opercula and infuscation on the radial and radiomedial crossveins in the fore wing. Carineta basalis also has large opercula but can be distinguished by the piceous fascia on the dorsal pronotal midline, and hyaline fore wings.
DISTRIBUTION.—The species has been reported only from Ecuador (Metcalf 1963c). Goding (1925) reported the species from Angamarca, Cotopaxi province.
MATERIAL EXAMINED.— “ ECUADOR: Pichincha / Prov., Guallabamba / 23–V–1976, 2500m / G.B. Fairchild / In desert scrub” one male (AFSC).
