Harpalus pumilus Dejean 1829: 305 .

The specimen here designated as lectotype is a male bearing the labels “ pumilus m. in Gallia mer.”, “ tibialis St. Ilyrion ?” and “ Lectotype of Harpalus pumilus Dejean, 1829 desig. by J. Serrano ” .

The individual I hereby design as lectotype has labels with the original writing of Dejean stating “Gallia mer”. I saw a second specimen with a card attached to the pin stating “TYPE”, but without any original label hand-written by Dejean, and there was no statement of authorship of designation. H. pumilus Dejean, 1829 (not H. pumilus Sturm, 1818) is currently considered a synonym of H. subcylindricus Dejean, 1829 (Kataev, 1989; Marggi et al., 2010; Kataev & Wrase 2017c). Although Dejean described first H. pumilus, this name entered in homonym with H. pumilus Sturm, 1818 . As I did not dissect the aedeagus of the type of I couldn’t compare it with the figures of H. subcylindricus published by Kataev (1989) or Marggi et al. (2010). However, the lectotype matches the characters nowadays considered as diagnostic for H. subcylindricus . A key to separate H. anxius (Duftschmid, 1812) and H. subcylindricus is found in Wrase (2004). This last species shows a Centro Asiatic European distribution pattern, from western China to the Iberian Peninsula.
